The College of Materials Engineering was formed in 2007 as an update to the Department that was established in 1993. The College of Materials Engineering at the University of Babylon is the leading College in materials engineering at the national level, not only because it's the first in this area, but also because it has a distinctive vision based on continuously deepening specialised expertise.

A conference on the implementation of the Bologna Process was held by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and several professors from the College of Materials Engineering at the University of Babylon attended. The conference was attended by representatives from the European Union, UNESCO, and other academic experts. The conference discussed the success of implementing the Bologna Process in technical universities and the readiness of government and private universities to adopt it in more than 600 departments in engineering and science starting from the current academic year 2024/2023. The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Na'im Al-Aboodi, emphasized the importance of internationalizing education and the role of universities in benefiting from global experiences in partnership with the European Union and UNESCO. The attendees participated in discussions on the success of implementing the Bologna Process and its readiness for adoption in engineering and science departments.
